FREDDY COLE

"Wielding A Voice Full of Character And Ripe With Love"
The New York Times - September 3, 1998
by Ben Ratliff

The singer Freddy Cole stands at a crossroads between cabaret, jazz and blue, and that flexibility does him favors: as the brother of Nat (King) Cole, with a voice whose phrasing recalls the famous singer, he does well to escape from further categorization.

Completely aside from that, as a deep-voiced singer of jazz love songs, he embodies a vanishing esthetic: he's one of the few male singers these days who is still at the height of his powers and can be taken seriously.
